The potential of curcumin against the cancer treatment

Curcumin is one of the products of plant secondary metabolites of turmeric and temulawak. Traditionally, curcumin has been used in the treatment in Indonesia to treat wounds, relieve pain and arthritis. There are a lot of data and literature that shows that turmeric and ginger has great potential as an anti-inflammatory, antiviral, anti-immunodeficiency, antibacterial, antifungal, anti-oxidant, anti-carcinogenic, and anti-infection.

 Now experts in several countries found that curcumin can also cure cancer. The antioxidant properties of curcumin can reduce inflammation and swelling that are common in cancer patients. Research has shown, anti-oxidants contained in turmeric can protect the fat, hemoglobin, and DNA from free radical attack. Anticancer substances found in turmeric also has tosisitas that can selectively destroy cancer cells without damaging normal tissue so as to minimize side effects.

Laboratory studies and animal experiments showed that curcumin could slow the spread of cancer and tumor cell growth in blood vessels, causing cancer cells to die. Various research in the laboratory showed that curcumin effectively to prevent colon cancer, prostate, and breast cancer.
