Bacteria and parasites can also cause diarrhea. These organisms interfere with the absorption of food in the small intestine. The impact of food is not digested and then immediately enter the large intestine. The food is not digested and not absorbed by the intestine will draw water from the intestinal wall. On the other hand, in these circumstances the process of transit in the intestine is very short so that the water did not get absorbed by the colon. This is what causes watery stool in diarrhea. Actually, the colon is not just spending extra water but also electrolytes. Loss of fluid and electrolytes through this diarrhea and can cause dehydration. Dehydration is a life-threatening diarrhea.

Besides being a virus, diarrhea can also result from malnutrition, allergies, not resistant to lactose, and so forth. Infants and toddlers are many who have intolerance to lactose because the body has no or only a few have a functioning enzyme to digest lactose contained lactose cow's milk. Not so with breastfed infants. Babies will not lactose intolerant because the enzymes contained in breast milk lactose. In addition, milk hygiene is assured because the direct current drunk without drinking containers such as milk formula by bottle and pacifier.
